“Triptych 0811″ is funded by Arts Council Norway, and will have its premiere at The Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) in Troy, New York, in September 2012.
The work thematically explores the relationship between dream, ambition, and reality, brought to life by iconic characters researched by Fiskum, and performed by three dancers. The visual aesthetic is inspired by the Baroque period, aspiring to create a dreamstate in counterpoint to the more or less harsh realities of life achieved via technological construct and dramatic costume.
The piece features five iconic characters: a muslim woman in a burka, a nightclub dancer with a ballet background from Belarus, a western mother (all first three portrayed by Fiskum), an aspiring Hollywood Star (portrayed by a male dancer), and a failed Ballerina. Each character will be teetering on the edge of reality and dreamstate, reality being a relative term. The performance seeks to unpack the layers of these personages, consciousness, re-create the poetics of the everyday, and challenge common perceptions. The use of technology, digital video integrated stage design and lighting, will act as a prism through which the characters’ nature can be revealed. This is partly inspired by ideas of the embodied mind from cognitive science, from psychogeography, about the individual’s relation to its environment and expanded cinema.
The art project includes dance, music and video.
